Garment Care Policy

How your pants will be handled, what I can and can’t promise, and what I won’t accept. Draft · Last updated September 24, 2026

Review before launchThis page is a draft structure written in plain language. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer. Sections marked like this must be finalized before I Wash Pants accepts any orders.

The care label decides

Every garment is cleaned according to its care label. Where the label permits more than one method, I choose the gentlest one that will get the pants clean. If a label is missing or unreadable, the garment is treated as delicate, and if I can't identify the fabric well enough to clean it safely, I'll contact you before cleaning it.

Inspection on arrival

Each pair is inspected on arrival. Existing stains, wear, weak seams, missing buttons and other pre-existing conditions are noted on your order.

Special and dry-clean-only pants

Garments labeled dry clean only, or that otherwise need professional cleaning, are cleaned by a professional dry cleaner or wet cleaner using the process the label specifies. These are priced as Special Pants.

Review before launchName or describe professional cleaning partner(s) once selected, and confirm how responsibility is shared.

Stains

Stain removal is not guaranteed. I will make a reasonable effort to treat visible stains using methods appropriate to the stain and fabric. Some stains are permanent, especially stains that have been heat-set, are very old, or have changed the fiber or dye. Stains that remain after reasonable treatment will be noted when your pants are returned.

Normal limits of cleaning

Even correct cleaning can reveal or cause changes that come from the garment itself rather than from how it was cleaned. Examples include dye bleeding or fading in garments with unstable dyes, slight shrinkage within normal ranges for the fabric, weakened fabric or trims failing because of age or prior wear, and the effects of an incorrect care label.

Items I won’t accept

For safety, I reserve the right to refuse any item, and to return it uncleaned at the customer's expense, including:

  • Garments contaminated with bodily fluids beyond normal wear, mold, pests or pest residue.
  • Garments contaminated with fuel, solvents, industrial chemicals, pesticides, wet paint or other hazardous substances.
  • Garments exposed to medical, laboratory or hazardous work environments that require specialized handling.
  • Garments containing sharp objects, glass or anything else dangerous to handle.
  • Things that are not pants. See What Is a Pant?
Review before launchConfirm refusal list and return/disposal process for hazardous items with local regulations in mind.

Items left in pockets

Pockets are checked, and anything found is returned with your order. I'm not responsible for items left in pockets, or for damage they cause to your garments.

Damage and claims

The process for reporting damage, how claims are evaluated and any limits on liability will be published here before any orders are accepted. Until then, there are no service terms in effect, because there is no service in effect.

Review before launchDefine claims window, evidence required, valuation method (for example, replacement cost less depreciation per an industry claims guide), and maximum liability per garment and per order. Consider requiring declared value for high-value items.
